# Project History

Sanji was born on the blockchain on March 25th during a livestream by the OpenAI team of ChatGPT's newest imagegen tools. To highlight the abilities of the image generation tools, the OpenAI team used Mengchao Zhong's (an OpenAI engineer) dog, named Sanji, as a test subject. Using images of the real life black Shiba Inu, the team created an image of Sanji using ChatGPT,and asked the generative AI to create a trading card based on Sanji. This is what the generative AI came up with.

After launch the project was abandoned, and a number of people who saw the vision decided to continue running it. A community was formed around the awesome nature of Sanji and the project narrative, and the potential to create an entire ecosystem around the dog that AI generated.

After growing the project for a number of weeks, and seeing the potential utility within the meme, a plan was created to take the meme to the next level.
